A huge thanks to Essential Ibiza for this amazing feature on our Music Supper Club charity event to raise funds and awareness of the homeless crisis in the Balearics.

Some to some of the world’s biggest clubs, finest restaurants, fun-fuelled beach bars and cocktail-fuelled sunset spots, Ibiza provides plenty of distraction from real life to those who seek it. And whether you’re a visitor to the White Isle enjoying all it has to offer or a resident caught up in the whirlwind of the season, it’s easy to overlook the issues affecting the island underneath all the glitz and glamour. One very real and growing problem that has started to emerge over the last couple of years is that of local homelessness, forced upon the Balearic paradise by ever climbing property prices. One woman who is refusing to turn a blind eye is Selina Ingram, a gifted chef and larger than life personality who has become an integral part of the island community since she arrived – and the host of the newly launched Music Supper Club.
This week, the charity initiative launched with a delicious three-course dinner and a party for afters, as well as many surprises, at White Isle institution Pikes Ibiza. The mission at the core of the event was not only to raise funds, but most importantly awareness, for the homeless crisis to inspire others to help in whichever way they can. It was wonderful to see how many people turned out for the opening, with both levels of the hotel’s Room 39 restaurant booked out and every last table of al fresco dining space Plaza Mayor taken.

Supported by Indian Restaurante Ruby’s chef Abby, Selina had created a menu to take diners ‘on a spice trail’ that showcased dishes from India, Pakistan, Jamaica and the West Indies. For 50 Euros per head, diners enjoyed a welcome cocktail from Absolute Vodka, starters such as Chapal minced Angus beef kebaps, Chapal halloumi and vegetable samosas, mains including lamb khari, Jamaican jerk chicken, vegetable khari and Jamaican bean stew, saffron infused rice, Mediterranean salad and much more. Sweet treats for dessert finished off the feast with Habanero cinnamon chocolate brownie and tequila cream or vegan truffles, a mouth-watering selection that showed off the breadth of skills of the kitchen team. The meal was accompanied by a selection of gorgeous wines chosen and supplied by Lilliana Amara and Alex Rein from Eivins, while a live set by Devanagari added an exotic and magical touch to the vibrant but relaxed atmosphere.

Meanwhile, the Bwell Chill Out Zone offered holistic therapies to restore and rebalance, with Helen Cockle from Full Circle Health performing acupuncture and manning the Chi Machine, an aparatus that oxygenises every muscle and organ in your body. Guests also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to win prizes sponsored by Absolut Vodka, Pernod Ricard and Pikes, which included some premium bottles to add to our bar shelf. Of course, it wouldn’t be an Ibiza event without quality music, and throughout the night DJs including Acid Mondays, Ainsley May, Habischman and Deep City Soul were taking it in turns to man the booth by Pikes’ famous poolside and inside indoor party space Freddie’s Suite.
After a busy night filled with fantastic food, laughter and great company, we managed to grab the hot-in-demand Selina to get her feedback on the inaugural night of Music Supper Club before the party headed inside at midnight. She said, ”I’m very with how it went. This confirms to me when you call people to action and they can do something, they do. And by supporting this event, collectively, people who are not here will benefit. We are not blind. We are mankind. And tonight we came together as a conscious social collective.”
Two further Music Supper Clubs are planned for July 29th and September 7th, so if you couldn’t make it to the opening, make sure you don’t miss out on the next one and help to raise awareness and make a difference for this very important cause. Posted by Essential Ibiza – July 1, 2017
